Our Community profile
Our church is in rural Ixonia Wisconsin approximately 1 hour from Milwaukee and 45 min from Madison. The area features farms of cattle, corn, and dairy. Ixonia has a mix of cultures, though our area is mostly populated by Whites and Hispanics. Our area includes diverse age groups, though our church contains many elders, seniors and long living foundational families. We have a few young people but would love to grow this more. Ixonia is a conversative, quiet town and we are surrounded by a few industrial buildings, school, park and small baseball field, a few banks and one town-hall line the area.
About First Baptist Ixonia - Formerly Oconomowoc, WI
The First Baptist Church of Ixonia has its roots in the First Baptist Church of Oconomowoc. FBC-O was founded in 1866 meeting in a number of places over the years, in 1912 the congregation built a beautiful building across from the City Beach in Oconomowoc on Highway 16.
On April 2, 2008, that church building was destroyed by a natural gas explosion. The church building was a total loss, along with 2 houses that the church owned.
The members of FBC-O purchased the old Ixonia Town Hall in the fall of 2008. Reborn as the First Baptist Church of Ixonia, the congregation continues to minister to one another through worship and to a needy world through mission. The Ixonia Food Pantry is the church's primary community mission focus. We also have started a Mill Mission for our farmers who are hauling their grain to market in the fall. We provide either cookies, candy bars, chips and water or coffee. The best part a friendly smile and a thank you! We seek to share God's love through serving the community.
The uniqueness of the congregation is that our history serves as a foundation for the future rather than an anchor to the past. We are enriched by our historic roots, but our commitment is to touch the lives of people of all ages with hope and God's love.
Our worship style is a mixture of contemporary and traditional.
Reverend Victoria Nelson
Reverend Victoria Nelson accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized into her family of Christ in 1975 at St. Luke Baptist Church in Chicago IL. After moving to Milwaukee, she renewed her commitment life to Jesus Christ and united with Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend George H. Jolly. Rev. Nelson united with Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church in Milwaukee WI. under the leadership of her former father-in-law Reverend Willie D. Wanzo Sr. for twenty years, teaching Sunday school, organizing women’s retreats, sing in the choir and leading prayer service and teaching Bible study.
Reverend Victoria Nelson accepted the Lord’s calling to preach the gospel and delivered her first sermon upon providing evidence of the call of God to preach the gospel, she was licensed at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church on November 6, 2011.Reverend Nelson faithfully served at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church in Milwaukee WI. Where Rev. Victoria Nelson was ordained and commissioned in 2017 under the leadership of Reverend Brandle C. Marrow Sr. (former senior pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church). Reverend Victoria Nelson attended Central Baptist Theological Seminary earning a Master of Divinity Degree in May 2024.
Reverend Victoria S. Nelson currently serves at Community Baptist Church of Greater Milwaukee as associate Minister under Pastor Dr. Demetrius K Williams.
Reverend Victoria Nelson had her ordination recognized by American Baptist Churches USA in October 2025 and currently serves on the Board of Managers and holds a position as the Commission on Ministry Chairperson for ABC WI.
Reverend Nelson is the leader and founder of (The Water and Word Empowerment Ministries) started in 2023.
Rev. Nelson brings a passion for Scripture that comes alive through fresh insight. She believes that a new perspective from God’s Word can shift everything — that we don’t have to stay stuck in place to move forward, even when facing challenges and obstacles.
Rev. Nelson’s ministry is grounded in the truth that God both keeps us and moves us forward. Her life verse, Isaiah 26:3 — “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you”, shapes her teaching on walking through obstacles without staying stuck. She believes every fresh insight from Scripture brings life, perspective, and courage to take the next step.
At the center of her message is John 3:16: God’s love is the starting point for hope. preaches to remind others that we are not alone, that peace is possible in the middle of challenges, and that His Word always leads us onward.
Rev. Nelson ministers the Word with a passion for hope and spiritual insight. She draws from Isaiah 26:3 to teach that God keeps us in peace as we trust Him, and from John 3:16 to show that His love moves us forward. Her desire is to help others see new things in Scripture that bring life and courage for the journey ahead.
Her teaching and preaching are marked by hope, spiritual discovery, and the conviction that every new thing we learn in Scripture equips us to live with purpose. Rev. Nelson’s desire is to help others see they are not alone, and that God’s Word meets us right where we are and leads us onward.
Her greatest ministry is to her family and community. Reverend Victoria Nelson is married to her best friend Brother Clark Kent Nelson, who serves with her at Community Baptist Church they have 7 beautiful children and 21 grandchildren. Her message is simple, “Jesus gave everything for us, and He desires for us to totally surrender to His will; so that we may bear much fruit for the Kingdom of God!”
